Problem: 375 pounds does not fit within the airport allowance

Plane Tickets - check

August 6, 2011 at 6:45 PM we will be flying out of NYC toward our new home in N. Africa.

Things we know:

• We have a 2-bedroom, ocean view apartment on campus
• with a dishwasher 
• & a fireplace
• & also fully furnished
• Nicole will be teaching K4
• Dave will be working in the HR department
• We are two of 30+ new staff members coming to the school

Things we don't know:

• Arabic [& also French for Nicole]
• Whether or not there will be mongooses... [hoping not]
• When we'll be back in the USA
• When you are coming to visit us  :)

A Brief Timeline

In response to an earlier submitted application, Nicole was contacted by a school in North Africa.

June 27, 2010
On our 1-year wedding anniversary, Nicole completed the "pre-interview" screening process via a phone conference call.

June 30, 2010
With no available job for Dave alongside an insufficient salary offer, we declined the school's offer to move forward in the hiring process. However, we asked to keep in touch with the school should openings arise for both of us in years to come... [years to come = at least 3 years]

December 14, 2010
Unexpectedly, we received an e-mail from the school asking us to please re-consider a more immediate international move. They had openings for both of us with raised salaries as an incentive. We were willing to talk.

December 18, 2010
We had our first conference call (as a couple) with the recruiting manager of the school in order to complete the "pre-interview" screening process. The school was ready to move forward in the hiring process, following their Christmas break.

January 17, 2011
Nicole interviewed for an elementary teaching position.

Dave interviewed for an opening in the administrative office.

January 28, 2011
We were officially offered contracts beginning August 1, 2011!! However, we asked for two weeks in order to fully contemplate the details of this move before responding to their offer because we still had moderate hesitations.

February 10, 2011
We had a long conference call with the recruiting manager of the school in order to bring some clarity on the financial side of this move.

February 13, 2011
