Surf Ninjas

We were given the opportunity to take a surfing class this past week. Surfing is much harder than it looks and we were very sore the next day; however, thanks to Carol we were able to get some sweet pictures to document our day at the beach. Here's a few:

Front row [left to right]: Brandon & Mark (the instructor)

Further to the above, we have been keeping busy in other ways. We have been in an intensive orientation/training for two weeks (going on three). In these trainings, we've we have been learning the language(s), cultural differences, school procedures, etc. We have also been able to explore the city a bit and, since it is currently ramadan, we were recently invited to celebrate a "Iftar" [fatoor] feast at a local family's home

The downside to it being Ramadan is that we are not allowed to eat or drink in public during the day. This means that many of the restaurants are closed and business hours are rather sporadic as the people are either home fasting or preparing for the "Iftar" feast. The upside is Ramadan Nights: a Fair like festival that happens every night during Ramadan. We were able to go and explore all of the cultural items for sale and all us girls found some very fashionable "Aladdin" pants [which we actually love].
